Why convert JPG to PNG?
People usually convert JPG to PNG because an app, template or upload form asks for PNG, or because they want to keep editing an image without adding another round of JPG compression each time they save.
The conversion happens in your browser and keeps the exact dimensions of your photo.
What to know before converting JPG to PNG
- It does not restore quality: JPG removed some detail when the photo was first saved. PNG stores what is left without further loss, but it cannot bring back what is gone. Existing JPG artefacts stay visible.
- The file often gets larger: PNG is lossless, so photos saved as PNG are usually several times bigger than the JPG they came from.
- No automatic transparency: PNG can store transparency, but a JPG has none to begin with. The background of your photo stays exactly as it is.
Image quality
There is no quality setting for PNG: every pixel of the decoded JPG is stored as it is. If a smaller file matters more than an exact copy, WebP or keeping the JPG is usually the better choice.
Your images stay on your device
The conversion runs in your browser; your image is not uploaded. Images larger than 40 megapixels are not supported, because they would exceed what a browser tab can safely handle.

How do I convert JPG to PNG?

Will converting JPG to PNG improve image quality?
No. Detail that JPG compression removed earlier cannot be recovered. The PNG is a lossless copy of the image as it is now, including any existing artefacts.
Why is my PNG bigger than the JPG?
JPG saves space by discarding detail; PNG keeps every pixel exactly. For photos, that usually means a considerably larger file.
Does the PNG get a transparent background?
No. Transparency is not created automatically. The PNG shows exactly what the JPG showed, including its background.
Why does this page reject my file?
This page only converts JPG images. The tool checks the actual file content, not just the name, so a PNG renamed to .jpg is recognised as PNG. To convert other formats, use Convert Image.
