How to convert PNG to JPG

Why convert PNG to JPG?
PNG files can be large, especially for photos or screenshots with lots of colour. Converting them to JPG usually makes them much smaller and easier to email or upload.
Because JPG cannot store transparency, you decide which colour transparent areas should get.
What to know before converting PNG to JPG
- Smaller files, some loss: JPG is lossy: it saves space by simplifying detail. For photos this is rarely noticeable; for sharp text, line art or logos, edges can look slightly soft.
- Transparency becomes a colour: Transparent and semi-transparent pixels are placed on the background you choose, white by default. They will not stay transparent in the JPG.
- Same dimensions: The JPG has exactly the same width and height as your PNG.
Quality and background
A quality around 80 works well for most images. Screenshots with text may need a higher value to keep letters crisp. For logos with a transparent background, pick the colour of the page or document where the image will appear.
Your images stay on your device
The conversion runs in your browser; your image is not uploaded. Images larger than 40 megapixels are not supported, because they would exceed what a browser tab can safely handle.

How do I convert PNG to JPG?

What happens to transparent pixels?
JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas are filled with the background colour you choose: white, black or any custom colour. Semi-transparent edges are blended onto that colour.
Why is the JPG so much smaller?
PNG stores every pixel exactly, while JPG discards detail that is hard to see. For photos this usually saves a lot of space.
Will text in my screenshot stay sharp?
Text can get slightly soft edges in JPG. Use a higher quality setting, or keep screenshots with small text as PNG or WebP.
Are my images uploaded?
No. The PNG is converted in your browser and stays on your device.
