Why remove metadata?
Metadata can reveal more than the picture: the camera or phone model, when a photo was taken, the software used and, if location was switched on, where it was taken. Removing it before you share an image publicly keeps that information to yourself. Not every image contains these details; the tool shows you what yours contains.
What metadata can be removed?
The tool removes the embedded metadata it can read: EXIF (including GPS), XMP, IPTC, JPG comments, PNG text entries and modification time, and other application data blocks in JPG files. After removal, the new file is scanned for all of these again. Only if none are found is the result offered as clean. The original colour profile is not kept either. When saving a JPG or WebP, the browser may add its own standard colour profile. It describes colours only and contains no personal information.
Does removing metadata change image quality?
The image is saved again by your browser. PNG is saved with lossless compression; only semi-transparent areas can change very slightly. JPG and WebP are re-encoded at a high quality setting (95), so the result can differ very slightly from the original, usually not visibly. The dimensions do not change. If no metadata is found, the image is not re-encoded at all.
What happens to GPS data?
GPS coordinates are part of EXIF and are removed with it. The result shows whether GPS data was present and confirms it is gone after the check.
Will my photo still be the right way up?
Phones often store the rotation of a photo as metadata. Before saving, the tool applies that rotation to the pixels, so the clean image appears upright even without the rotation tag.

PNG is saved with lossless compression; only semi-transparent areas can change very slightly. JPG and WebP are re-encoded at high quality (95), which usually is not visible but is not a bit-for-bit copy. If no metadata is found, the image is left unchanged.
Does the image size change?
The dimensions stay the same. The file size changes, because the image is saved again. It can be smaller or larger than before: the metadata is gone, but a JPG or WebP saved at high quality (95) can take more space than a more strongly compressed original.
Does removing EXIF rotate my photo?
No. Phone photos often store their rotation in EXIF. The tool applies the rotation to the pixels first, so the clean photo stays upright.
What if my image contains no metadata?
Then there is nothing to remove. The tool tells you and offers the original file, without re-encoding it.
Are my images uploaded?
