What to know before converting WebP to JPG
- For older workflows: Use JPG when a tool you rely on does not open WebP. If it does, keeping the WebP avoids another round of compression.
- Transparency needs a background: WebP can be transparent, JPG cannot. Transparent areas are filled with the colour you choose, white by default.
- Lossy to lossy: Most WebP images are already compressed; saving them as JPG compresses them again. Use a reasonably high quality to keep detail.
Quality
Because the image is compressed a second time, a slightly higher quality than usual, for example 85 to 90, helps avoid visible artefacts. The preview shows the result before you download it.
